    Hi Kate,

Phil has given you some good information there. I live in the UK and take Aknemin. It is definitely pelleted because I have opened a capsule to see!!! I was concernced when I was first prescribed this (only a couple of months ago) but my pharmacy said this is all they have. I posted about it and got some good feedback – especially from ‘Randy’. Here is what he said:

I have been using Aknemin (100mg) since this April. I was very concerned at first that these were not the right type of Minocin. However, they are doing the trick just fine. Additionally, they ARE pelletized; you can open one up to check – I have. Also, these are not considered generic Minocyclin, unless I am not getting the right story from the pharmacy and Dr. F. I am being assured they are the same as brand-name Minocin. Note that they are manufactured in Reinbek Germany. My delivery comes from the Westlake Pharmacy, Hounslow, U.K. and the Pharmacy Dr. F. used for this is the Northwest Pharmacy in Canada (yes, how “the world is flat”) CustomerService@NorthWestPharmacy.com or call us toll-free at 1-866-539-5330.

As you can see Randy visits Dr F who is very experienced with all of this. It is too early for me to tell if Aknemin is working or not. I have read of a couple of other posters here in the UK who have been prescribed Acnamino. I think this is the Modified Released version and would probably be better. Not sure where you would be able to get that though.

    Hope this helps Kate.

I found Aknemin in Europe but the pharmacist can’t tell me if it’s pellet ๐Ÿ˜•

Aknemin capsules should contain pellets and not powder. Trying them is the only way to see if they can help you. ๐Ÿ™‚

dear friends, I have good news … I tried to take minocin 50 mg (waiting minocin pellets) but I did not take at breakfast but at lunch after eating pasta and did not give me stomach problems . I’m very happy ๐Ÿ™‚

Next week I’ll try again with the same dose and mode ….

I hope this is the right mode ๐Ÿ™„

Hi Flower – so sorry – I have only just picked up on this thread ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

I still take Aknemin and have this morning opened one up just to make sure they still contain pellets – and they do!! Very fine tiny pellets but definitely not powder. Now, I am not sure this makes them enteric coated but I remember when I first came onto this site pellets were recommended. I did take Acnamino which is modified release, meant to be better, but my lovely Doctor left and the Doctor I have now won’t prescribe them.

Anyway, you can await your Aknemin safe in the knowledge it does contains pellets.

    With kindest wishes

Thank you flower ๐Ÿ˜€ Nice to meet you too! I don’t have any problems taking Aknemin at all including my tummy. I always take it two hours away from other medication and probiotics and one hour away from food – with no problem. If you still have a problem then I think you should take with a little food to help ๐Ÿ™‚

Do hope you get some relief flower. Let me know how you get along.

    Take care.

Yes Lucia (love that name) – I always leave a gap of one hour after food and two hours away from any medication or probiotics ๐Ÿ™‚

I drink a glass of water alongside it.

I go to see my rheumatologist tomorrow so I will get the results of my blood tests. My knees and ankles are really hurting at the moment. I will just keep plodding on!

I do hope you get some benefit from the Antibiotic Protocol. It takes a long time but it is certainly worth a try.

Take great care and I will look forward to hearing from you ๐Ÿ™‚

thanks patricia (although yours is a beautiful name)

I’m sorry for your knees and ankles… in addition to these treatments have you tried Low Dose Naltrexone? I’m doing a little more than a month …

and are you taking care of your diet?

    take care ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Lucia ๐Ÿ™‚

Just want you to know that I had some good news yesterday – my blood inflammation markers are still on their way down. My crp is now 4 and my esr 22. My white blood count, red blood count, liver and kidney markers etc all going down!!! This can only be the minocycline. I still don’t have RA factor or Anti CCP in my blood ๐Ÿ™‚ Proof that minocycline in my opinion is keeping me from more deterioration so worthwhile sticking with.

The not so good news is I am still producing antibodies and my knees need some ‘cushioning’ gel injecting into them ouch. I have had this awful illness for three years full on now so I guessed there would be a time that I would need some treatment. I still believe I did the right thing taking the minocycline though. It is my belief that the stronger drugs would have caused other problems AND the narrowing joints in my knees would still have occurred.

I would like to try low dose naltrexone because I have read good reports of it but I think it interferes with opiates and I take morphine for pain relief. I would be in too much pain without it sadly.

I have started juicing which I love. Have you watched Fat Sick and Nearly Dead?? It is an eye opener. I have also cut meat out, dairy right down and eventually will cut it out and then will cut gluten out. Yikes – slowly slowly lol!

How about you Lucia how are you doing with your diet?? It is hard to cut out all the things we love. Cheese is hard for me but I know it isn’t good for us really – and beautiful crusty bread – oh noooooooooooo

Hope you are getting along with the Aknemin ok??

I am pasting below a past post on Maz’s progress thread that gives tips on detoxing. I must read it again also because I would definitely benefit from this. Apologies if you have already read this but it may come in handy for any newbies too ๐Ÿ™‚ Maz is a fountain of knowledge – we are very lucky ๐Ÿ™‚

Please take care and keep in touch Lucia xxxx

Detox methods I’ve found helpful (from Maz’s progress thread)

    1. Glutathione IV push

    2. IV Myer’s Cocktail (high dose nutrients)

    3. Undenatured whey protein (to boost glutathione levels) – products such as Immunocal, ImmunoPro or Warrior’s Whey…important to ensure whey is harvested from “organic” grass-fed cattle with no additives.

    4. Far Infrared Saunas (aka FIR saunas)

    5. Epsom/peroxide baths

    6. NAC (N-acetylcysteine) capsules to reduce fibrosis and, as NAC is a precursor to glutathione, will also help with detox.

    7. ALA (Alpha lipoic acid) – anti-oxidative capsules

    8. Systemic enzymes (taken on empty stomach) such as serrapetase or nattokinase. I’ve used Neprinol, which is quite expensive, but it is promoted for RA as a fibrinolytic/proteolytic supp to reduce inflam and fibrosis.

    9. Krill Oil gel caps (said to be more bio-identical than fish oil)

    10. Astaxathin gel caps

    11. Coffee enemas (first used by Dr. Gerson to reduce pain in cancer patients…coffee is absorbed by hepatic portal vein and is thought to promote glutathione).

    http://www.coffee-enema.ca/

    12. Liver/Gall bladder flushing (not for anyone with kidney issues due to magnesium content in epsoms) and lemon/olive oil detox drink (which acts as a slow liver flush when used daily).

    13. Colonics – I haven’t tried these, but some AP docs are using these in a series to clear toxic waste from the gut…need to be careful to replace good bacteria after these (some colonic hydrotherapists will do a probiotic flush into the gut after the colonic).

    14. Lots of good old fashioned pure water.

    15. Ensuring never to get constipated. If I do, I use Oxypowder capsules (ozonated magnesium)

    16. Good, clean fresh diet of lots of fruit and veggies, being careful to watch for food offenders, such as gluten and dairy, which seem to be the most common ones.

    17. I’ve also started using a supplement, called Slippery Elm, which is purported to help heal the gut lining, as leaky gut can be a problem for many rheumatics.

    18. Opti-Cleanse, as prescribed by my doc: http://www.xymogen.com/2008/formula.asp?code=000262

    19. Pekana Basic Detox and Drainage Kit: http://www.forresthealth.com/big-three- … 1&featured

Here is a link to an AP doc in NYC who specialises in Leaky Gut with suggestions on how to heal and protect the gut.

    http://mdheal.org/leakygut.htm

As with everything we do as rheumatics, the low and slow approach works best, and I wouldn’t try to do more than one thing re: detoxing at once so that I could determine what was helping and what wasn’t. So, a nice, slow, measured approach in consultation with a treating physician is the optimal way to go when trying something new of this ilk.

Would just like to add that I bookmarked the above detox thread quite a while ago so not sure if it is fully up to date so please do your own research to see what suits you before embarking on any of it ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

There is also a lemon/olive oil drink recipe somewhere that is meant to be good for starting off with.

    Take care everyone……x

    Hi Patricia

I am happy that your blood inflammation markers are on way down ๐Ÿ™‚

I have not rheumatoid arthritis, but psoriatic arthritis – same symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis but without deformation – so I can’t monitor the disease with blood inflammation markers but only through the symptoms: pain, swelling and stiffness. :ugeek:

to help my knee affected by arthritis have not done local injections, these injections are helping you do that? ๐Ÿ™„

    I hope too ๐Ÿ™

I took the first dose of 50 mg Aknemin Sunday to breakfast even though I had a bit of burn but seems to me to be able to take it ๐Ÿ’ก

tomorrow I try to take 100 mg at lunch and I hope I do not hurt ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

    Dear Patricia

my diet is very restrictive from May

    I excluded:

    gluten
    dairy product
    red meat
    sugar
    packaged products

I understand that the foods that trigger inflammation are more like those that make permeable intestines then mostly starches.
I suffer a lot for these restrictions, but I have no choice until I am better ๐Ÿ™„

    take care

    Lucia

    Hi Lucia ๐Ÿ™‚

Do hope taking your Aknemin isn’t causing you any problems and you are managing well.

I have been taking Aknemin then Acnamino and back to Aknemin again my gp wouldn’t prescribe the Acnamino because of cost) for two years. Firstly at 100mg MWF then after a year upping it to 100mg everyday.

I can see you have a very strict regime with your diet and I should think this will be of great benefit to you although very hard for you.

The ‘cushioning’ injections are to help my knees because my markers for inflammation are coming down but my knees and ankles are still very swollen and painful. The rheumatologist took an xray and he said it showed narrowing of the joints. He believes the ankle swelling is related to the knees. That the veins can’t clear and therefore the fluid is backing up in the ankles. Something like that. Soooooooo he gave me the option of a steroid injection into the knees or some kind of gel injected under local anaesthetic. I chose the latter (because I have been on systemic steroids for three years and my knees are still swollen!!) and he agreed that would be the best choice. I am hoping I will get some relief and less swelling ๐Ÿ˜‰ Will let you know how I get along as soon as I have had the procedure done.

    Best wishes to you.

    Love Patricia x

    Patricia.Ann

    I hope you’re feeling better

Aknemin was fine with my stomach, but then I started to minocin pellet and don’t tolerate like aknemin ๐Ÿ™„
I went to minocin pellet because I thought Aknemin was generic and it seems to work less but was more sensitive to my stomach
I’m seriously thinking to take Aknemin…

Have you noticed any difference? works well for you Aknemin?

    kisses to you
