Thoughts on Oral Clindamycin

For those who are taking Oral Clindamycin – what is is the suggested dosage.  I currently handling the mino 200mg per day (100mg at 10am and 100mg at 4pm) and are looking to add clindy at some point in the future.  IV's are not an option for me at this time.

I would be interested in your thoughts.

Brendan,

The oral combo that worked the best for me was Mino/Zith.  You'll probably have to experiment and see what works best for you…….hopefully your doc will be agreeable.

I think Kim is right on about this and the need to individualise add-ons to the basic protocol as everyone is different.

Oral clindamycin can be very hard on the gut and has been linked to clostridium difficile infection, so this is worth considering when figuring this out with your doc.

Site suggests 1200mg once a week – seems a lot given the tablet dose in Australia  is 150mg – 8 tablets.  Good news is that the weekly dose will only cost around $5 which is cheaper than the minocycline, which is about $8 a week when taken 200mg daily.

My likely approach will be to take the clindamycine for six weeks and then back off to mino only.  I seem to be handling the mino very well so I am hoping the same will occur for the clindy.
