For years, I've only taken one ibuprofen tablet a day, at lunchtime. My rheumatologist always looks at me with surprise whe I remind her of that, and says things like: “That's a kid's dose!” “Does it do anything for you?” and “That's too low to do anything for inflammation.” But I'm someone who used to buy children's chewable allergy medication so I could break off only what I needed–about 1/4 a tab.  (No allergies anymore…)

For the past two days, I haven't taken the ibuprofen. And–ouch! Pain in knees, feet and hands. I'm wondering if this could be a withdrawal effect? I'd like to ride this out.

Good luck, Sierra.  I've tried getting off my one dose of indo since January.  Just haven't been able to yet–one of these days!!

Lyme/RA; AP 4/2008 off and on to 3/2010; past use of quinolones may be the cause of my current problems, (including wheelchair use); all supplements (which can aggravate the condition) were discontinued on 10/14/2012. Am now treating for the homozygous MTHFR 1298 mutation. Off of all pain meds since Spring '14 (was on them for years--doctor is amazed--me too). Back on pain med 1/2017. Reinfected? Frozen shoulder?

Sierra – am not sure about withdrawal. You could try fish oil as an anti-inflammatory. Although my AP Doc tells me that, in higher doses, the liver has to work hard to process (sigh!). I know you are already reasonably strict dietary-wise, but changes to diet can often help with inflammation and pain. Even a vegetable juice fast for a couple of days may help you through this. BTW, are you still struggling through as the only patient your rheumy has on AP? Wondering if it may be time to consult with an experienced AP Doc? Lynnie

    Hi Lynnie,

All good ideas. Yes, I am still her only patient on mino. That's amazing to me, when right before her eyes, a very sick person got dramatically better on a safe, simple drug. I was shocked by her off-hand comment last time: “You might be doing this well even if you weren't on the mino.” If I had gotten better on MTX or Enbrel, she would surely have credited the drug!

I did go to a doctor recommended by Roadback, and he was familiar with, and somewhat supportive AP, but definitely more of a mainstream rheumy. He was surprised that his name was on the list.

I'm feeling good now after a morning dose of Zyflamend, and  a noon dose of fish oil (1,000).  Even though my daily ibuprofen dosage was small, I felt a desire to get off of it, if possible.
