I too received the letter from Dr T about retirement. I fortunately had my appointment with him in Aug (first & only!). Both my husband and I were uplifted and encouraged. After seeing him my rheumy seems to have finally accepted how serious I am about AP since I “self-referred” to Dr T as she put it in my records. I presented her with H. Scammel’s book and she has agreed to continue AP. Dr T stopped the hydrochloroquine and I am continuing Pred taper (down to 3mg/2mg alternating days). I’ve started to write my RA journey because it’s with gratitude to all of you here at Road Back that I am functioning today without heavy duty drugs (methotrexate nearly killed my liver; 20 mg Pred daily masked problems; etc, etc) Dr T told me I have about 2 years to go before I reach my best place. I have no problem traveling slowly now that I truly believe this journey takes me to a better place. THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE.

Good going Caroline123 – best wishes for continued improvement.

I had a good day, I went to my local PCP and he said he would continue my mino program. I am very happy about that, it takes a load off my mind. If I feel I need to go to a Rheumy, which I don’t think I need at this point, I can pursue that later but I am now covered for my mino, bloodwork and monitoring. I have been seeing this doc since before my SD and I have always been happy with the care he provides so it’s a win win for me. Good news!

There is a woman who is/was a Dr.T patient over on the Sclerdrema Family board that is going up to Beth Israel to see one of the new Docs early in Nov. It will be interesting to see what she finds out. When I hear I’ll post.

    Maz,

Haven’t been here in awhile but stopped by today and was distressed to learn that Dr. T is hanging it up. Like others I am in hopes of finding someone experienced in AP either here in Maine or elsewhere in New England. Could you please send me an up to date list of AP docs for this area.

    All best,
    Winston

    Hi Winston,

So nice to see you again, but really sorry it’s because you need a new AP doc and that you’re experiencing some issues that need resolution.

I’m afraid the pickings are slim for up your way, but there is an excellent AP doc in Northampton, MA, who is quite integrative (uses IV clindamycin which is a good sign he adheres to infectious theory) and may have some insights about how to tweak your AP for your seasonal skin issues and now your lip problem. I’ll send you what we have, though I haven’t heard any recent feedback on the other docs listed.

Just a heads up: It may become increasingly difficult to get in to see the Northampton doc, as many of Dr. T’s patients are transferring over to him, so wouldn’t delay making an appt, as docs will close books to new patients when they get overly busy. Do hope one of these docs can supply you with what you need. The NH doc seems to be an environmental specialist, so he may turn out to also be quite helpful in your situation, but it’s hard to say without much feedback on him.

If you need any listings for other states, let me now, but hoping one of the ones I send will work out for you. 🙂 I’ll send the listings in a PM (private message) which you will find by looking up top beside your User Control Panel and clicking where it says (1 new message).

    Maz,

Thanks for the heads up on New England docs and I will let you know what I discover. By the way, I have to tell you that I love the way you end your posts with Peace! I was a counterculture journalist in the late 60s and early 70s so the word Peace definitely brings back old memories…many of them good.

    All best,
    Winston

Winston, you’ve led such a fascinating life – journalist, photographer, boat captain!!! I bet you sure do have some fascinating stories to tell. 🙂 I hope one day you’ll write a book and share some of your beautiful pictures, too.

    Maz,

I showed your post to my wife Joyce and she said, “The day you start writing your life story I’m moving out!”

The closest I ever came to doing so occurred a few years back. I was writing a column on the Internet on repairing recumbent bicycles and someone started a thread on recumbent riders backgrounds. I watched the thread for a few days and then grabbed a pad of paper and wrote up a resume. By the time I got done I’d discovered that I had had a bit more than 100 jobs in the 55 years I’ve been working and that I have had 29 different vocations. Notice I didn’t call them careers, that would be putting an awful lot of positive spin on a basically unglamorous set of jobs.

That said, while it’s true I’ve had a fairly interesting life the time has come to Pay The Piper. And the last time I checked the only person in America with more zeros in his retirement account than me is Bill Gates. The trouble is Bill has numbers in front of his zeros whereas I have only a decimal point. 🙁

    All best,
    Winston
