I just found out I have a low white blood count. From what I understand, this can be caused by having an autoimmune disease (in my case SD). It is also seen in people with Lyme. However, it can also be caused by minocin. Just wondered if anyone had any input or advice…….Also, my Dr. hasn't told me to change anything at this point. If I do need to switch things up, does doxy have the same effect on your WBC?

    Hi Mum,

Here is some info about depressed WBCs on this link on rheumatic.org – see FAQ #14:

    http://www.rheumatic.org/faq.htm

“A blood test called the Carbon test is enormously helpful at determining the cause of the decreased WBC. The company Body Bio (888-320-8338) can provide a clinician that can perform the test in your area.”

Erhlichia (either HGE or HME), a coinfection of Lyme, can cause depressed leukopenia and the treatment may be doxycycline. Babesia can also cause it, as well as causing anemia.

Might be worthwhile asking your doc about the carbon test above to see if you can fathom a cause for your decreased WBCs.

Hope you find some answers, Mum. The suggestion in the link above at rheumatic also is to drop the mino for a while to see if WBCs bounce back up. If they do, then it's likely the mino…if not, then it is something to do with disease process or infection causing disease process.

    Peace, Maz
