IGENEX IGM RESULT POSITIVE
Hi Velouria,
Well, it looks like you're positive by IGeneX testing criteria on your IgM result! Any LLMD worth his salt would in all likelihood treat you based on that result. Of course, it doesn't meet CDC criteria for a positive, but only 50% of people with Lyme test positive on standard tests, which is why more sensitive testing is called for. Some of the sickest Lyme patients are so immune-compromised they may never be able to mount a sufficient antibody response. This is largely why Lyme has to be a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and patient history.
You may consider getting further etiope testing on Band 31 for confirmation on this indeterminate (IND) band. IND means there is some antibody present, but not enough for a full positive. Band 31 is pretty specific for Lyme, but the etiope test will rule out the possibility of cross-reactivity with certain viruses. That said, you are IGeneX positive on IgM and an experienced Lyme doc would probably not bother with the etiope testing…it's just if you would like to have it done for further validation. IGeneX stores blood samples for a month or two, so you've got time to decide if you want to do this or not.
Here are a couple of links to help understand the significance of the various bands.
