Hi Louise,
You need to get both tests at the same time so you can compare the numbers. You also need to make sure that the blood samples are handled properly or the test result for 1,25-D will be useless. And make sure that the test is done by Quest, and not some other lab.
The reason these tests are important is that some bacteria disrupt vitamin D metabolism and increase the conversion of 25-D into 1,25-D. The increase in 1,25-D is harmful, and taking large doses of vitamin D may make the situation even worse.
