    Hi Everyone,

Finally saw the Rheumalogist who stated that I have severe RA and suggested I start on methotrexate etc, not even a mention of alternatives (not surprising).  I didn't mention it to her either because I wasn't prepared to get the “raised eyebrow” look which would further depress my hopes.  From reading a lot of material, RA joint damage seems to occur within the first two years therefore the more radical treatment seems to suppress the damage caused.  I know that AP therapy takes longer and I'm prepapred to endure it, but does it also suppress joint damage?  Thanks to Lynnie for supplying me names of doctors with AP experience, I have an appointment with Dr. K.D. in Victoria (have to travel 4,000 kilometres – might make it into a shopping trip!) on 18th November.  I'm excited because where I live in the Northern Territory I am used to having to wait a lengthy time before seeing a specialist/doctor.  I've cut down the predisone to 25mg/day 12 days ago and am starting to feel bits and pieces of pain everywhere but so far I can function so I will stay on this dose until I see Dr. K.D.

    Cheers.

hbell – Dr K.D. does phone consults so it might be worth you putting in a call to her for a 15 min appointment this way to get her perspective. If she hasnt already, she might also suggest when/how to cut down on the pred. There are some great posts on this topic by the way. Just type in ' weaning prednisoneor pred' into the search box up top.

On the other hand, it's only 17 days to go! I would suggest that you write down everything you want to ask – such as these questions – and take it with you, cos she can talk like a machine gun, gives you lots to consider that you might not have and you dont want to miss this opportunity to get as much from her as you possibly can, having travelled so far. I think you must now take the award for furthest travel to see a doctor in this country! :dude: Lynnie
