This article is about a lady with RA who died within 24 hours of contact with a serious bacteria. I hadn't thought of it this way before, but as one who enjoys saltwater activities, I refuse to suppress my immune system.

I wonder from you experts, how compromised if any is the typical RA person who is on mino?

I will not compromise my immune system with big pharma chemicals.  I was afraid of flying or being in any kind of crowd and am so glad I found this forum and AP.

Definitely a terrible tragedy. I did a little further digging on this story (since the original article was difficult to read due to grammatical issues). Ironically, the woman's RA onset began shortly after surviving Hurricane Ike. Yet another reason to suspect bacterial/viral causes in RA.

I have a friend whose 20-something daughter died after doing clean up for Hurricane Katrina.  She came home from the mission trip and was dx'd with lupus shortly after, went through hell on the meds for that, died after getting some type of infusion for low iron (Aranesp?)

Mom of teen daughter with Poly JIA since age 2. Current med: azithromycin 250 mg MWF.
