    Hi everyone!

I just wanted to let you all know that my daughter took her first dose if Zithromax last Friday, Yea!!!

I have been giving it to her with dinner but started wondering after reading some old posts would if the morning be better. Also, should I not give her her probiotics with the Zith? I think I remember reading that somewhere too? Help:blush:!

We are still waiting on the Celiac results. I was a little discouraged when we went to see her Rheumy on Tues., he said he had run a blood Celiac test on her in '06 that came back within normal range. I really think he is just not happy with the route we are taking and trying to discredit Dr K. It's just sad because our last Reumy in VA was so supportive.

O… one more question, my Daughter seems to be really tired since starting the AP and I didn't know if anyone else has experienced this?

    Blessings!

    Hi Lisa,

Glad to hear that your daughter has started the zith. For the probiotics or naything with calcium ot magnesium, the general rule is 2 hrs before or 2 hours after taking the zith.
I recently tested neg for Celiac, and based on that I went off of my no dairy no gluten diet. It didn't take long for my irritable bowel symptoms to return. I started back on the diet 2 weeks ago and the IBS symptoms have disappeared. Just do what you think is best for your daughter based on her experiences with certain foods, postive test results or not.
Fatigue is one of the signs of a herx reaction, so that could be what's happening there, but it is also a symptom of arthritis, so it's difficult to know what the cause is. It's suspicious that it began after she started the zith, but it actually may be too soon to see a herx reaction. Everyone reacts a little differently. Some people keep a journal so that they have a timeline to refer to as far as when meds are taken and when symptoms worsen or improve. It's also helpful information when your doctor isn't completely on board.
I hope your little girl sees improvement soon, the earlier antibiotics are started the better the outcome, so her chances are good. She's a cutie, btw!

I have a question for you if you don't mind, you can pm the answer to me. My son is in school at UT and has been having some stomach pain and nausea for a few weeks now. He needs to see a PCP or a gastreneterologist, but I previously lived in SA and don't know where to begin to find him a doctor. If you know of anyone you can recommend I would really appreciate it. His insurance is thru his father who is military, so it's Tricare for a military dependent.

    Best wishes for your daughter,

    linda

    Hi Lisa,

So great you're little on is now on her way! 😀 Try not to let the disgruntled remarks from disbelieving docs get you down. She'll be in good hands with Dr RK.

I usually take my zith dose in the middle of the day, between meals and well away from my daily probiotic dose….at least two hours before or after probiotics. Although, Suzanne may be able to tell you the best type of probiotics for little ones and what time of day she finds best for her little one. If Suzanne doesn't see this, you might try a private message to her. I take 8 PB8 veg caps, but these would probably be too hard for a little one to swallow and dose would different. There may be a liquid version or a chewable that would be better?

I definitely had a lot of fatigue after starting zith and usually had some worsening of joint pain (not so bad now) about the 4th or 5th day after my dose along with some other herx symptoms. I don't think everyone is the same with this timing, though, and probably depends on pathogen load/type when herxes occur.

This link on the main board explains a lot more about the herx reaction, which may help you discern better what you may notice:

Just a suggestion, but might be a good idea to ensure she keeps up her fluid intake, especially in this warmer weather, to keep those toxins washing out.

All the best with this, Lisa, and do hope AP turning this around very soon!

    Peace, Maz

Hi Lisa or Anyone Reading This,

I am reading your posts about your daughter with interest, as we are on perhaps a similar path.  My teenage son started AP yesterday, Zithromax 500 mg twice a week (and we're supposed to see a specialist soon about possible celiac).  Anyhow, I'm not clear on whether Zithromax is supposed to be taken with food or without food.  I thought my son's doctor (Dr. F in Riverside CA) seemed to indicate that Zith be taken with a good sized meal, but I'm not entirely sure.  I'm searching this website for every reference I can find to Zithromax, but still not sure whether it should be taken with our without food, or if it doesn't matter.  Also, I was wondering about continuing daily multi-vitamins with minerals and whether that would limit the positive effect of Zithromax.  Can you and/or anyone with experience with Zithromax please share tips/knowledge on taking Zithromax with or without food and use of multivitamins while taking Zithromax?  Thanks,

    Mary Lou

    Mary Lou,

I just sent you a PM.

For us, Dr. F also clearly said the Zith should be taken with food.  The no food recommendation is generally related to Minocin which is known to bind to minerals thereby making less med available.  Zith is a completely different animal.

    Mary Lou,

Great to meet another AP Mom! I too saw one of your posts the other day and was also thinking how similar our stories were! I have now started giving my daughter her Zithromax in the middle of the day with her lunch(Thanks Maz & Cheryl!!):D.

My Daughter is still taking her multivitamins, and she is also on Tumeric 2 capsules a day, as well as 3 capsules of Fish Oil.

She is also still feeling really tired today, I think she might be getting sick(she catches everything:doh:). If she's not better tomorrow then I will email Dr. K and take her to her PCP. So we'll see.

O and Maz, thanks for the herx link too! I read it over and am watching for the symptoms.

    Blessings!

    Hi ,

I just wanted to suggest to those who have had negative celiac tests that my son and i both tested negative by blood. However, when i found my AP doc , she wanted us to order  gluten sensitivity/ celiac from http://www.enterolab.com. She does not trust the blood testing or a celiac biopsy for that matter, as when they take the sample, they may not get a peice that has been damaged. I am glad i listened to her and had it done as we are both gluten sensitive. This test is a very simple, non invasive test and you DONT need a docs requisition for it. Also, it is done DNA , tells you whether 1 or both parents caryy the gene, what gene it is etc. and you cant get  any better  that.

Just thought i would mention this.

    Casey
