    Hi all,
I have just switched from doxycycline to Minocin (minomyacin here in Australia).
It made me feel quite nauseaous and dizzy (i took 50mg yesterday morning and night after food)
as i knew i wouldnt be able to take it on an empty stomach

I seem to recall someone saying aloe vera juice may help?? Does anyone else have any suggestions??

Do you think the nausea etc passes as your body gets used to it?

    Thanks
    Debbie

Hi Debbie. I was kind of sick to my stomach for the first several months after I started the minocycline. I was also taking plaquenil and celebrex at the time, and all three of those medicines can be hard on your stomach. It did get easier, and now I don’t even notice the minocycline. It’s a lot harder for me to ‘choke’ down all the supplements I have added to my protocol over the years.

So yes, it should get easier as your body adjusts. But we are all a little different in our reactions. In addition to taking the AP with food, maybe you will get some other suggestions. Hang in there.

Hi Phil, I think i had toast, maybe two pieces….

I have experimented with it. (i took two on the 1st day)50mg mino,

The last two days i took it after food..
    1st day musli and soy
the second day one piece of toast and a banana,

seemed to be okay on these days..
Also i took the probiotic and krill close to the time too and wondered if that may have helped??

I also wondered if i was supposed to take these foods or not? close to the antibiotic?

    Thanks for any ideas,
    Debbie

Debbie – you just need to avoid mineral-rich foods and supps (calcium, magnesium, iron) given that the tetracycline drugs are highly chelative and will bind to them

Yes, minocycline gave me headaches. My solution was to get 50 mg tablets and cut them in half. I took 25 mg MWF for one month before trying to increase the dose. Although it took me a few months, I can now take 50 mg without headaches. In several weeks I will try to increase the dose to 100 mg.

As for food, avoid taking minocycline with food that has been fortified by adding minerals since that is similar to taking mineral supplements with your minocycline (which is a “no no”). Two minerals commonly added to food are calcium and iron.

    Hi Debbie!
What is the “dizziness” like? Can you describe those symptoms and any similar symptoms? What EXACTLY do you experience when “dizzy”?

I only ask this because I was really upset over a dizziness I was experiencing that was a very unique kind of “dizzy”. I felt like it was almost a vertigo-like feeling, only the room wasn’t moving, it was my arms and legs. When I would move my arms and legs, it was like I was witnessing them “lag”, like a computer mouse used to do across a computer screen. It felt like my brain wasn’t catching up with my movements. I was also light headed, of course, and would feel I was on the brink of fainting but could never actually faint, even if I tried (for example, kept moving around in a controlled environment). I know, it sounds weird that I tried to see if I actually could faint, but it was really just me ignoring the symptoms and see what happened; I wanted to know if I was actually in danger if this happened.

Anyway, we did literally dozens of tests with all my specialists, especially my neurologist. Turned out my nerves, electronic waves, etc. were totally normal! Then we went to an integrative medicine doctor in annapolis, md and shortly before the appointment, I hadnt had any “dizzy spells” in a long time until I had a very sugary dessert. I shared this information with the doctor and he is currently having me tested for candidas yeast. At first I said, “noooo way! I’ve never even had a yeast infection!” but he explained that it is a different kind of yeast and as it turns out, I have a number of extended family members that are on anti-fungals for that very reason. I am currently awaiting the test results from my fecal sample.

But, it is worth a try to keep a journal and log when you get them. it may not be the most obvious sign

    hope this helps somebody!

PS– as far as what to do… personally, I have noticed a big difference when I am stressed and when I eat granulated sugar or things with high fructose corn syrup. It isn’t every time.. but especially when I just totally pig out! haha I know it may not be the same for you, but maybe somebody else out there??

Yes, Minocycline (and earlier doxycycline) caused dizziness, nausea and headache. But it lasted about a month only.
I had really severe headaches that lasted a few months when I first started AP and introducing detox on a regular basis helped a lot. I still get all kinds of ugly symptoms when I do not detox in a while.
Detox and diet are not a cure, but they certainly help!
