I thought this may be of interest to many on here since we all seem to take healthy doses of probiotics. They’re talking about IBD but couldn’t this apply to many inflammatory conditions? Could this be part of the reason many still deal with gut issues despite taking probiotics ? I know were not supposed to take iron with our Abx but is it a known thing to take PB away from iron also ? Just more things to ponder !!!

Although probiotics have been shown to successfully maintain remission in IBD, evidence of their effectiveness in active disease is rare. The researchers have found that this is because an increase in iron levels, which happens during active IBD, inhibits the growth of probiotic bacteria, including Lactobacillus.

Thanks very much for this Suzy. Interesting for people but doubly interesting for me because I have a kitty that seems to be developing some belly problems (& he was just treated for toxoplasmosis 😮 ). In fact, just this morning I picked up some probiotics for him.
