A few years ago I thought I read on this forum that n-acetyl glucosamine (NAG) was good for joint pain of rheumatic diseases and began taking it. Now I’m wondering why it is preferred over glucosamine sulfate, as the latter seems better absorbed than NAG from what I read. Can anyone clarify this for me? (I did read the NAG posts and people with SD evidently can’t take glucosamine sulfate – unless I misunderstood). Thanks!

    Hi vera
I think glucosamine of any description is more suggested for pain caused by osteoarthritis rather than rheumatoid.

There has been more past discussion on the forum of N-AC (n-acetyl cysteine) for its benefits in promoting the production of glutathione in the liver (so it’s very good for detox) and for its benefits to the lungs. It is an integral part of some combined antibiotic protocols which target CPn – see http://www.cpnhelp.org.

Oh Lynnie, you are so right. It is NAC not NAG that I learned about here…ugh how I messed that one up! Thank you so much! I am taking the NAG for interstitial cystitis (which I understand from Dr. Klinghardt can be a Lyme related problem). Thanks for straightening me out!
