Hi everyone,
It’s a long time since I wrote on RB but I do browse sometimes. I’m wondering what any members would do about taking abx while the liver enzymes are raised and one counter raises very high then lowers then raises again, but ALT stays raised. I’m due to see the specialist again next month and last time I saw her she wanted me to have a biopsy and tell her what I’ve decided next visit. I don’t want one.
Does anyone no what I can take for my liver I do take milk thistle but not as often as I should.
I’m not doing very well with the RA and the other rubbish connected to it and the only thing I have left is taking the Minos .
Thank you for your help and any info you have will be vry appreciated.Regards

That would be the only way to rule out mino as a cause of the liver problems and it is certainly something I would do before getting a biopsy. If flushing your system of mino for several weeks doesn’t improve your liver test values, then you could proceed with a biopsy and other tests, but failing to rule out mino first would be a mistake in my opinion.

But I don’t take Minos and haven’t done for over three years.May 14, 2012 at 8:07 pm #363256BGParticipantSorry, misread your post.
If I were you, I’d have the biopsy done then. The biopsy will help them clarify what’s going on and in which direction to go next.

You don’t mention what you are taking at the moment in way of Meds and any supplements. I would think you would need to look at these first as it is probably something that you are taking.

Milk thistle extract and N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC). In my opinion, everyone who is on long-term antibiotic therapy should be taking milk thistle extract and NAC every day, especially if they are also taking other medications like methotrexate, NSAIDs, etc.

Ive stopped most of the meds and only take prenisolone, very little paracetamol, changed from nexium to ranitidine for acid reflux as the nexium can affect the liver.
The biopsy won’t necessarily tell them the answer to the problem as they have explained, so doesn’t give me a lot of incentive to go ahead.
Kind regards

My LLND has me on 500mg of NAC BID.. I’m glad you mentioned that, because I was wondering if I should do the same. Either that or maybe finding a liver cleans formula with both ingredients in it. (The problem with that though is that usually the dosage of said ingredients are too low)
