    Hi Lindalou,

Yes, I had occasion to look this up a bit, as I had an elevated RDW (red cell distribution width) last spring. In my case, it was not a concern as it was just a drug side-effect caused by the longterm penicillin I was taking, which corrected itself when I switched out to a different protocol.

Mostly, I think it is more to do with a certain types of anemia, called pernicious anemia (a B12 deficiency) or iron-deficient anemia. In pernicious anemia the MCV (mean corpusule width) in addition to an elevated RDW is usually an indication of this type of anemia.

You can read some more about this on labtestsonline and wikipedia:

Was it your RDW and/or MCV that was elevated, Lindalou, and did your doc mention this to you as a concern?
