Oh Maz, keep fighting the good fight, you will get to that remission! You truly deserve it. When you are there though, don’t forget about us!! You are always so knowledgable. Thanks for keeping tinnitus in mind when researching, I feel much better knowing that….more so than any of the doctors “on my case”. gag. To be fair though they really can’t be sure tinnitus is an ear thing or a brain thing, until they can come to some conclusion of where to begin the future looks bleak. The only bright spot, sadly, is that so many of our soilders are coming back from Iraq with tinnitus so the government is pouring more money into research than ever before.

im no longer depressed but when i was i had highblood pressure. this gave me tinitus, but since i realized what was finally wrong with me i turned my depression into a fight and i use it proactively. positive vibes help me fight the depression and since then my blood pressure has dropped to optimal levels and my tinitus went away. clenching your jaw can do the same. practice relaxation techniques, like yoga or simple meditation. turn off all electronics or go outside to a quiet place. dont take antidepressants cuz you dont need them. if you are depressed im living proof you can beat it πŸ™‚ im a happy guy and i used to have tinitus.

Gordon, thanks for giving me HOPE that tinnitus can go away because everything I read, every doctor I go to say once the damage is done to cause tinnitus it’s irreversable. I AM super stressed but I went to a tinnitus clinic where 5 different specialists looked at me, one being a dentist. She checked for any indications that I am a jaw clencher (not) or TMJ, not that either. I do yoga and have bought all the self guided imagery CD’s pertainig to tinnitus and RA for good measure….I keep trying πŸ˜•

well hearing damage can give you tinitus. my ears ring bad after a concert, but they also ring if i smoke too much pot or drink alcohal. i usually only notice it in these cases once i go to bed. but i just zone it out. im lucky to be a heavy sleeper. it takes alot to keep me awake in bed. unless you have damaged your hearing permanantly you can get rid of tinitus. cronic sinus infections can also give you tinitus. lots of stuff causes it besides hearing damage. get your ears tested if they arent damaged you can get rid of it

Ototoxic drugs can cause tinnitus, I was on one so I fear that is the cause. This is nothing like the ringing after a concert it’s very, very high pitched 24/7, it is very difficult to sleep and function normally. Apparently 80% of people with tinnitus function fine, 20% have a flight or fight reaction. There is no where to flee and nothing to fight, you cannot control how your body reacts it just takes time for your brain not to recognize tinnitus as a threat, then you are “habituated”. Some drugs that are ototoxic, aspirin and blood pressure medication, two of the top of my head, cause tinnitus that will cease after the medication is stopped. Sorry I didn’t mean to turn this into a tinnitus thread πŸ™„
