Concerning OTC progesterone, a number of years ago I became familiar with the work of Dr. John R. Lee.  Also, I listened to a number of recordings of his addresses to groups on this subject.  In addition, I was impressed with him and his work enough to purchase his book, “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You …..”

He was very “pro” progesterone use by women when they were entering the age of menopause (as I remember).  And I'm pretty sure I'm remembering his saying that the body can take this substance rubbed into various places on the skin, and from it make the needed hormones.

Am thinking: if the above is true, then maybe I need to re-read the book.  I just did a search and found the link below to his work and site.  I'm sure there are preferred products for this.  (Am also thinking that Needs.com consultants might be helpful for answering questions). Over the years since I first read about his work, I've occasionally gone to his site (he's deceased now, but the site is carried on), and even learned some interesting things he wrote about men and hormones.

Hi! I just read some studies saying that arthritic people have problems with their hormones.. and that supplementing hormones can make their arthritis go down. I also know that some doctors have cured arthritis with boron.. and apparently boron makes our hormone levels of testosterone and estrogen double if there is a lack of boron (which probably almost everyone have in america).

SO.. i was wondering if anyone has tried this and what their results were?

Oh btw.. these hormones increase the immune function in the intestine and also modulate how our immune system acts (th1 or th2 reaction).

    Cheers, Sandra

Oops!  Below I was thinking “boron” when it is actually “biotin” that candida begins burrowing deep into the tissues to find.  Sorry about that!!! AF

    Sandra,

Thanks for starting this thread, and for tweaking my further learning on this subject.

I believe I'm remembering reading quite a number of years ago that when our good flora in the gut gets wiped out, and candida is over-running the gut system, when the organisms can longer find [biotin… not boron.. sorry about that!] available in the gut system, they begin burrowing into deeper layers of the body looking for biotin.

I did a search using words from your above post:  hormones arthritis boron bone
and found a number of links.  These are three of them, and the first one listed was far and away my favorite of the three.  The 2nd one gives quite a history of boron's use, along with some warnings.

I did a goggle for micronized progesterone and it appears that there are some sold OTC.

Pattyrod – I'm not sure what the FDA rules are on this. You may be quite right. In Australia, once the diosgenin is extracted from the Wild Yam in a laboratory to make bio-identical progesterone, you cannot get it here without a prescription (internet sales are, of course, a different matter, although getting past customs may be an issue). This article is pretty good in explaining the differences between bio-identical progesterone and the progestin that is used in most concentional HRT. It also cautions on checking amounts of progesterone contained in OTC creams. Lynnie http://naturalmedicine.suite101.com/article.cfm/progesterone_not_the_same_as_progestin
