Pharmacist Izabella Wentz, Thyyoid disease advocate recently posted on Facebook about the following study demonstrating that Hashimoto’s thyroiditis patients, who often suffer from IBS and hives in addition to elevated autoimmune labs and hypothyroidism (with some hyper episodes), receive good benefit from treating co-existent infection with the gut parasite, Blastocystis hominis. In this study, researches treated study subjects with Alinia and Wentz also adds that the probiotic, S. Boulardi, as a helpful adjunct to this treatment.

Numerous rheumatic patients suffer with autoimmune thyroid disease, which can mimic and exacerbate rheumatic symptoms, so this research could provide helpful insight into alleviating these overlapping symptoms that can be tricky to differentiate from rheumatic disease.
