    I haven’t posted in a long time because I have felt pretty good but have noticed recently (I think) a blue hue under my thumbnails. I also haven’t felt great just tired more than usual and a feeling like I sometimes can’t get a good breath. Also have had for years heart palipatations. Because of the later, I had an echo to rule out pulmonary hypertension about three years ago that was normal. Should I be concerned or just assume it goes hand in hand with poorer circulation, raynauds and hypothyroidism?

    Dx with CREST 2/08. minocycline 2x/day M-F, LDN 3mg nightly, 90 mg of Armour thyroid. Probiotics, milk thistle, L-argine, L-lysine, natto + serro, 81mg baby aspirin, daily multiple, 1000mg Vit C, lutein, cinnamon extract, evening primrose oil, omega 3s, Ubiquinol 100mg, alpha lipoic acid and exercise when I can.

    It could be Raynauds related but because you’ve been feeling unwell, with more tiredness than usual and feeling like you can’t get a good breath, it would be wise to see your physician.

    Has anyone tested your blood oxygen saturation levels recently?

    I thought about checking my blood oxygen. I may be able to do that at work as I work at a VA hospital. The funny thing is it is only really my thumbs that are noticeable. I was taking silver drops but only for a few weeks and then decided that may be a bad idea given a metal analysis several years before I started chelation showed I was higher in silver. This may sound silly but I almost don’t want to know if it is something scary like pulmonary or heart issues. But, I have to admit I am anxious about it. Thanks for your replies-

    Hello Aggie I have just read your post and your symptoms are identical to mine. A couple of years ago I had episodes of rapid heart beat, bluish fingernails and it felt that I couldn’t draw breath to full lung capacity. It was found that I was anaemic and I was prescribed a six month course of ferrous sulphate ( iron tablets). A blue or brownish tinge to the nails can indicate a vitamin B12 deficiency.

    I have also wondered both of these too issues as the cause too because of course I have scoured the internet much to my husbands dismay! Lol. He is not an alarmist and doesn’t want to know all the horrible things it most likely isn’t. Thanks for letting me know you both have had this too. I feel a little better about it now. I was borderline anemic a few years ago but don’t think I am now because I have been in menopause for a few years. I will ask MD to check though because I get a lot of headaches too. I was wondering about the minocycline possibly causing this. I dont care about blue nails if that is all it is because when I try to cut down on mino I have had huge flairs! In fact, I give my body a break from mino on weekends ( don’t know if that is a bad idea) because i am usually feeling it by Sunday. You all are such a comfort. I will hopefully go about my day just chalking this up to part and parcel and be grateful for how well I am! Thank you So much for replies. Will let you know if there are any other answers to the mystery in case others could benefit. I know being able to come to this board has been huge for me!

    Hmm, Lynne I am wondering now if what I thought was a bruise that wouldn’t go away is a blue spot like you are describing?!

    Hi Aggie;
    More than likely the bruise is mino related.Both Richie and I have been on it for 16 years and can tell you all about blue spots. hehehe Just learn to live with it as the alternative is not very nice.I like this side of the grass.

    Fahgeddaboutit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! –Lynne is right on -minocycline can turn your tissues blue –heres a case in point –I had an eye exam -in back of my eye the doc got all shook up cause it was a bluish color not white —I then told him about the minocycline that causes it –so what –its nothing —unfortunately no where on the internet etc mentions about this –or another very common problem for folks with scleroderma –that being loss of padding at bottom of feet —Dont worry bout your thumb –forget any tests etc and enjoy the upcoming holiday season —

    Adding to Richie’s comment here.If you ever have to have surgery for a broken bone you could freak out the docs as bones can get a green tinge.Just too funny to see the doc’s face.

    Hi Aggie,
    I was a nurse so from a medical point of view, blue fingernails is a symptom of lack of oxygen (cyanosis). Not to scare you but lack of oxygen is bad for the brain. When you have blue finger nails taking oxygen could make you feel better. Here is a link that you can look at.

    Got a story about bruising easily which I find is quite true —recently hurt my knee –taking Aleve for the pain which I might add helped a lot –all of a sudden I come out with 3 bruises on my arms –good size red spots –did some research and found a fairly common side effect for Aleve is bruising easily —stopped the Aleve about 4 days ago and am using Motrin if I need it –result bruises have lightened quite a bit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Lynne and Aggie,
    Since you’re an “old pro” Lynne, this question is good to address to you… and to Aggie, too.
    While you have been on mino and/or other abx, do you do any kind of regular detoxing to assist the liver with its nightly metabolic detoxification? If not, have you ever thought about using the “Whole Lemon/Olive Oil Drink” to help with detoxification? I’ve known of posters, and private responses, about this drink having numerous benefits.

    I’m thinking it just may help the liver process toxin build-up which I’m hoping might be helpful for the blue that builds up. A scientist of some renown, Garth Nicolson whose site is: http://www.immed.org also recommends the Lemon/Olive Oil drink for detoxification. (Dr. N at one time was the Chief Scientific Officer at MD Anderson Cancer Research… I believe this is close to correct. And he also solved the riddle of the Gulf War Syndrome and helped our returning Gulf War veterans get the kind of medical attention they needed.

    Hi Friend;
    I have been using the olive oil/lemon drink for years.I just love anything sour so I drink it as much as other people do coffee.I also do the peroxide/epsom salts baths.Blue spote are just part of the game when taking as much mino as SDers do which is a heck of a lot more than RAers
