    Hi, Friends,

Remember me, the person who posted a few weeks ago how wonderfully they're doing?  😉

Ugh, I think I might be paying for my holiday indulgences.  I've been off gluten for a year and a half and off sugar for seven months.  I still stayed away from gluten over the holidays, but I ate a LOT of sugar.  It seemed ok at the time, but now I'm an inflamed mess!

I know sugar is pro-inflammatory, but it never affected me this badly before.  Could it be that since I've been off it for a while I'm now more sensitive to it?

Ha , I am sitting here, just wondering about why my index finger is soooo swelling that I can hardly bend it over…. I was wondering what the cause of my hands swelling, too….

Like you I also had some sugary food during the holidays. I don't eat a lot of surgary food but during the Christmas time, my 13 year old daughter begged me to bake Christmas sugar cookies. We baked tons of them. I ate three of four each day (they are very small). …..

About a week ago, I started one herbal antibiotics (Artem.). It seems I have problems of mouth thrush and also swelling fingers. I also had an acute severe diarrhea. Now my fingers and back of my hands are very swelling and tight.

I am wondering what could cause me this much pain, sugar or Artem. Hey, perhaps Artem is killing all these Lymie bacterias. who knows.

Actually I am sitting here, typing Dr. S of Iowa an email, asking him to give me another round of IV Clindy. I cannot afford not be able to drive.

Hope this flare up will soon go away for me and for you, Maria, as well. It's so unfair!!!

For other reasons my daughter went off all dairy 3 wks prior to Xmas (particularly cheese, which she loves), she had some brie one night boy did she suffer the next day with severe diarrhea.   It never fails to amaze me how you could eat something you haven't had for a while & it adversely affects you.  When I was on hol's we went for a BBQ to a friends place & my HB thinking he was doing me a favour filled my plate up & put some seafood on there for me as well, anyway it had a sauce over it & I ate 2 spoonsfull before it registered with me that our hostess had bought it not made it … I had a mini flare within 1/2 hr of eating it !!

I hear all the time about people who have been good with sugar then indulge in a little bit & suffer for it … wouldn't surprise me to hear that a lot of us suffered over the hol's because of ingesting things we wouldn't normally eat.

I had an interesting discussion about this a few days ago. I have a 3rd trusted member of my “wellness team” (in addition to a great conventional PCP and AP/Lyme doc/naturopath in another State). He is a guy who is Board Registered across a number of complementary health disciplines. I asked him about my seeming increased sensitivity to foods I no longer generally eat and I wondered if it meant I was somehow making myself “worse”. He gave me another perspective. He said that my body (immune system) is actually now doing its job much better than before and is now able to give me an immediate response to things it doesnt like. Interesting.  I stopped drinking milk because of sensitivity and find that now if I “cheat” I really feel it.

    Oh, yeah!!

    Trudi

Lyme/RA; AP 4/2008 off and on to 3/2010; past use of quinolones may be the cause of my current problems, (including wheelchair use); all supplements (which can aggravate the condition) were discontinued on 10/14/2012. Am now treating for the homozygous MTHFR 1298 mutation. Off of all pain meds since Spring '14 (was on them for years--doctor is amazed--me too). Back on pain med 1/2017. Reinfected? Frozen shoulder?

    Lynnie,

That's a great question we are all wondering about. I heard from a Russian doctor who said during the war time, many Russian young men from big cities died in Siberia. Surprisingly, a lot of young men from country survived. Later, scientists found city guys had very little tolerance to different food versus guys from countries.

Last week, I bought two books of NAET program. Like Road Back, I am doing my own research. One of the programs they do is to desensitize the allergens, such as food. Instead of avoiding the food which causes allergic reaction, the practitioner “trains” the body to “accept” the food. It's kind of reprogramming a brain to accept those food it has been rejecting. It's very interesting.

Maz A, this is the program

This is what we discussed previously.

You could also google NAET see what other patients say about it. Some unsuccessful stories were pretty much due to the practitioners were not knowledgeable enough or the patients did not follow the instructions, or not persistent. The basic idea is from Asian acupressure which is not anything new. However the method of desensitizing is something interesting.

That is so interesting!  I must say I've found it to be true.  I went off gluten a year and a half ago, and then 1 year into my gluten free life, I cheated and really paid for it.  I went off sugar 7-8 months ago, and am now paying for my holiday cheating.

It does seem like my system is more sensitive than it had been.  Years prior to getting full blown sick, I'd have symptoms fluctuating w/ my hormones.  When I was sick, I was just sick regardless, and then when I started to feel better, I was pretty much asymptomatic regardless of the time.  Since doing some herxing on herbals, though, and finding good probiotics, I'm again slightly symptomatic when the hormones fluctuate.

    SO interesting!!  Thanks, Lynnie!

Marie that happened to me too! I was on 5mg of prednisone and had to up it to 7mg for the holidays…now i am down to 4mg again and doing great!!! I always flare up during the week between christmas and new years……every year!!! This year I just upped the prednisone rather than suffer and now i am right back down…minus 1mg.
