I don't know why I haven't asked this already but, during my 5 day clindy iv treatment with Dr. S in Iowa, he had me NOT take my Minocin during the series.  Dr. F never told me to not take it, and may have (I don't remember) told me to continue taking the Minocin during my monthly iv treatments.  Will it matter if I don't take the Minocin during my treatment week?

Also, for all the Lyme sufferers…do I need to continue with the Lyme meds during my clindy iv's, or can I take a break from them?

Do you (or did you, for all you remission folks) take your Minocin and Lyme meds all together?  Dr. R in NYC said to take them all at once, and now that I'm overthinking about it, should I be taking Minocin on its' own?  Dr. F said all the Lyme meds I'm on are bacterialistic, and kill mycoplasma so, even if he isn't 100% convinced that Lyme is the problem, he thinks the drugs will only help to kill the mycolplasma.

As always, thanks for your help!

    Hi Maria,

I have had the same questions….

I was not taking the minocin during clindamycin IV treatments, because of comments I had read on this forum.  Dr. F. corrected me when I told him this, and said to keep taking the minocin during IV's.

Also, for all the Lyme sufferers…do I need to continue with the Lyme meds during my clindy iv's, or can I take a break from them?

At first I thought I should stop taking lyme meds during the IV's.   My llmd told me to continue with lyme meds, even while on the clindy IV's.  Also, my llmd is not a believer in pulsing, so I doubt she would support going off the lyme meds, unless you were having difficulty handling them both.

Do you (or did you, for all you remission folks) take your Minocin and Lyme meds all together? Dr. R in NYC said to take them all at once, and now that I'm overthinking about it, should I be taking Minocin on its' own? I don't think Dr. F. thinks I have lyme either, and was going to tell him next visit that I've started treatment.  I asked my llmd on Friday if I could go off of minocin, since I am on so many drugs.  She said that they prefer to add, not subtract medication.  So, even though they would normally prescribe at least 400 mg. minocin daily, instead of 200 mg., they would prefer for me to stay on the protocol, including minocin.  She did recognize that I was on alot of medication and understood why I would ask that question.

Maria, I guess what got me thinking, is that most others on lyme treatment are taking the usual protocol, and those of us with minocin and I'V's are taking that in ADDITION to the lyme protocol.  What has your llmd said about all of this?

ps: I was questioning if I should switch llmd's and travel to N. CA, to another doctor.  Just found out that Dr. H llmd (son of Dr. H. of Igenex) interned in my llmd's office.  Then I learned that my llmd trained with the famous Dr. B., so I guess her credentials are good.

    Maria,

I had my Clindy IVs with Dr. S. too, and per his instructions, stopped the Minocin while I was there.  Didn't know I had Lyme at this time.

Later, when I started Lyme tx I abandoned all other treatment and it worked well for me.  Dr. C. assured me that my SD symptoms would continue to improve as we attacked the Lyme and they did.  Just my experience.

    Take care…..kim

    Hi Maria,

I still take mino with the I.V.'s. I also take zithromax and Flagyl during the series. The only one I stop when I do a week long series of I.V.'s is Mepron as it is too hard on the kidneys (they are both processed by the kidneys). Otherwise I take everything as normal. However, I always take minocin on its own. I take the other antibiotics with food. I read somewhere that when you take the other antibiotics with the minocin, it can decrease its effectiveness. I can't remember where I read it and I'm not sure how true that it is, but I don't want to risk anything decreasing the minocin's effectiveness with SD.

Sure makes it tough fitting everything in especially when I also have to take my thyroid meds separately on an empty stomach. Not to mention probiotics with food away from antibiotics. I need more hours in the day just fit it all in!

    Mum,

I'm supposed to start mepron.  How much are you taking, and have you been able to tolerate well?

    Maria,

I also take minocin separate from the other antibiotics that I take with food.

    Hi Nancy,

I started taking Mepron a week ago. I take one teaspoon twice a day (with lunch and dinner). It is best absorbed with fatty food. I am tolerating it really well. I haven't notice any herxing or anything different to be honest. In fact, I have been feeling really well lately. I was very worried about taking it. My doctor said it could be rough going with Mepron and a lot of herxing and discomfort. She wanted to make sure that she saw me no later than 3 weeks after I started to see how I was tolerating it. But so far so good. Hopefully it stays that way. Good luck with it!

I certainly can relate to not having enough time in my day to take everything!!

So, I will take my Minocin by itself from now on.  How long do I wait after I take it to take my Lyme Meds? Also, the Omnicef I take (Cefdinir) says to take it 2 hrs before or after antacids, iron, vit/minerals.  How can I do it?  My current schedule is:

    5:00 am Armour Thyroid

7:00 am Minocin + Lyme meds

9:00 am systemic enzymes, wait 30 minutes and other supplements required to take on an empty stomach

    11:00a.m. Eat

    noon: 1st dose of probiotics

1:00 systemic enzymes, wait 30 mins then supplements

    2:00 p.m.  Eat

    5 or 6:00 p.m.  Minocin + Lyme Meds

7 or 8:00 p.m. Systemic enzymes, wait 30 mins then supplements

    7:45 or 8:45 Eat dinner.

    9:30 DHEA

    10:00 Probiotics

    Before bed: Magnesium

WHERE do I fit in the meds with all the restrictions? I can't get up any earlier than 5 am!! I'm down to taking low dose Protonix every #rd day, and should be off it completely by February so, that will free up a little window. UGH…this is so frustrating:headbang:

Non generic Minocin can be taken with food if necessary.

My schedule looks similar except I have Cloxicillin every 6 hours 24/7 and may have to increase it to every 4 hours. It really puts a crimp in doing all those normal things like shopping. I find myself packing around pills and I keep water in the car. Some times if I'm running late I grab a bag of chips to take my anti inflamatories with. Some times when I mess up my schedule I'm up real late fitting things in.

I am so happy to see I am not the only one doing this.

I think a lot of us are juggling med and supplement conflicts–no doubt!  I'm still confused about when to take my Lyme meds. I take systemic enzymes 3x/day, prior to dinner, and was under the impression that I have to space 2 hours between Minocin and everything else.  Is that right? I know I can eat 1 hour after taking it but, what about other meds/supplements/enzymes?  Are the enzymes as effective if taken an hour after eating? If I take my enzymes on an empty stomach, then do I take my Lyme meds during dinner, an hour later?  Someone please help me figure this out.  I'll blame the clindy iv's and lack of sleep last night for not being able to figure it out.

    Hi Maria.

I completely concur with Nancy.  Dr. F. has very clearly directed me to keep taking the Mino during the Clindy IV's.  By the way, I have not been too worried about this…
