Is there a difference between brand name Plaquenil and generic?  I've been taking all brand name drugs up to this point but, am just wondering about the Lyme meds like Plaquenil, Omnicef, Biaxin, Flagyl, Mepron, etc.  I will not substitute the Minocin for sure but, my insurance co-pay is changing for Brand name drugs.

    Thanks!

Hi Maria. When I got my first prescription from my doctor I explicitly asked for name brands only — to make sure I got the correct minocycline and plaquenil. When I refilled the plaquenil prescription at Walgreens, they substituted a generic. I didn't event notice it for quite awhile. I was pretty upset when I discovered it — but that was a long time ago and it doesn't seem to have made any difference. My rheumatologist certainly wasn't concerned about it. I don't think it has the same implications as the generic minocin.
