    Hi Everyone

It has been awhile since ihave posted I hope that you are all well. I have been on the mino (pulse dosing) since Feb. I hit a bump in the road last month and had a bout with esophagitis that the drs have said was possibly from the minocin (yes I take it hours before laying down and with 2-3 glasses of water 🙂 it was recommende by a GI that I stop tking it.

My AP dr has suggested switching to Doxy. Here' my question is it as effective for SD as Mino, and won't it cause the same esophageal issues with me (since i seem to be prone to them). Isn't Doxy in the same family as Mino?

I appreciate your time and advice!

    Hi Momma,

Sorry to hear you're having esophageal problems.  Have you tried taking the Mino with food?

Here is a link from the Education section:

Hope you can get this worked out……kim

thanks for the tip. doesn't it affect absorption though if you take it with food?

I hope that you are well Kim!

Honestly, I can't tell any difference with food or without food.  Even if it diminishes the effectiveness slightly, so what, if that's the only way it will work.

Thanks for asking, yes, I am doing well and enjoying being back in the game.  Hopefully, your crazy schedule of mom/student/wife will quiet down this summer and you can concentrate on healing.

    Take care….kim

I've been on both and have had to take both mino and doxy with food…my stomach just couldn't handle it without something in it. I actually find the mino to be less aggravating to my stomach than the doxy…in fact, my doctor suggested I switch to the brand name (doryx) to alleviate the issue, but at the 1k per month price tag, I just couldn't do it. I try and avoid anything with calcium or magnesium in it though since they supposedly limit absorption. Also, minocycline is supposed to be LESS affected by food than the other tetracyclines.

RA/Lyme: 100mg Minocin (brand) MWF, 3mg LDN, 10mg CBD- BID

I have to take doxy with food or i am naseaus and throwing up within 20 min. I figure i'd rather have a little less effectiveness than nothing at all. My prescript bottle also has a “take with food” sticker on it.

Thank you for the advice! I might try it with food to see if it is better so I should just avoid any type of daury with it?

    Yup, avoid dairy for sure.

Since you asked about dairy, i am assuming you are not dairy free.  If your not ,could you pretty please give me a bite by bite take on any dairy dessert or even a huge glass of cold choc milk …Ah and a hot fudge sundae..ok forget it ..i'm drooling now!
