Went to RA specialist last month and was told I have SD.  But some of the test result were not back yet.  All tests that were  back were normal.  But today got a call that my urine test came back with high amount of protein and I need to do a 24 hour urine catch.  What does this mean?  Is it due to the SD or something else?

    Thank you

    Terri

ps. got good news today……. got approved for SSD finally but was told would be several months before I got my back amount.  But would get my first regular check mid may.

    Hi

A high protein to creatinine ratio can be a sign of either reduced kidney function or some kidney damage or even ingesting a high protein diet –scleroderma can affect kidneys and it is important to attempt to support the kidneys with an ACE inhibitor –there are many studies how  ACE inhibitors have greatly reduced kidney failure in scleroderma

Thank you for the info.  I guess thats why they are having me do the 24 hour catch.  guess this is something I have to stay ontop of.

    Hi Terri,

Sorry to hear you were dx'd with SD.  It took my docs 9+ months to dx SD for me.  All my tests (e.g., ANA and SCL-70) were normal too. However, my latest blood tests last month did show positive ANA,  speckled 1:320.

I can't imagine having to pee for 24 hrs……..just kidding!

    Hang in there!
