I have been struggling since November with severe eye inflammation. Terrible burning, redness and swelling beneath my eyes. I have been to several ophthalmologists and optometrists and have been told by some I have dry eye and others it could be TED, thyroid eye disease. I have tried numerous drops including steroid and artificial tears as well as heated eye masks and cold ones. I have been given a medrol pack and had an orbital CT done. No one can seem to figure out why nothing helps. I am at a loss..

I have a history of Lyme, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis and hashimotos.

I think you must find a good doctor. Are your eyes dry? How much do you drink daily? You can be allergic to something. Think and check if anything has changed since November 2023?

RA tried everything: Methotraxate, Arava, Humira. Pneumonia three times. Anemia. Very low iron. Hypothyroidism
AP from April 2014 till August 2015. No luck.
Current medications: Natural thyroid, Mobic, supplements,
    vitamins and minerals.

    Hi Ellie,

You can be allergic to something. Think and check if anything has changed since November

This is good advice. Whenever a new symptom appears, I usually ask myself this question: “What changed?”

More often than not, after giving it enough thought, it has turned out that the new symptom was caused by some change that I recently made. For example, started taking a new medication, started taking a new vitamin or dietary supplement, started eating a new food or drinking a new beverage, increased the dose of a vitamin that I’ve been taking, etc. Here are some other ideas: Started using a new brand of laundry detergent, shampoo, or soap.

You mentioned that the eye inflammation began back in November. Did you receive any vaccines shortly before the eye inflammation appeared?

I suffered from runny blurred vision for years. Drops did not help the dry eye problem. I stopped Crestor for another reason and my dry eye issued cleared within a week. No more dry eyes of blurred vision. Come to find out one of the things that lubricate your eyes is made from ldl cholesterol.

Psoriatic Arthritis: 100mg Minoz Minocycline TABLET daily; twice daily 400mg Pentoxifylline;125mcg Levotyroxine: Have been using some level of Minocycline since 2008

Thanks all. Looking back at November my thyroid med was changed from Armour to NP. I requested to switch back and have just begun doing so. They also discover my thyroid levels were not good and thought my dosage was too high so that is being lowered as well. I also began spending a lot of time in a textile mill during to a new hobby so unsure if that is playing a role as well. Blood work recently showed elevated immunoglobulin, elevated ANA speckled and homogenous pattern. Negative sjogrens bit my Rheumatologist still thinks it’s a possibility.
