For folks with lupus….thought this YouTube of Dr. Gregg Silverman, a Physician-researcher at NYU, might be of interest. He is speaking about how microbiome studies have identified overgrowths of a specific gut microbe in the genus, Clostridia, called Ruminococcus gnauvus, which appears to “bloom” during flares, causing inflammation and microperforations in the gut lining, leading to microbe antigen leakages, which in turn set the scene for immune system attacks. He also speaks about the potential for future targeted treatments, including probiotics to normalize gut function.
