Excellent Jan, but stick to apple juice. From my hospital days in the pharmacy, I remember that orange juice and grapefruit juice should be avoided pre and post surgery.Orange juice induces nausea and grapefruit interferes with blood coagulation.

Jan, do what they tell you to do. Yes, you may feel like crap , but your eye sight is the biggest gift. I think you are nervous, don’t be. I have several friends that have had cataract surgery, and they all said it was a breeze afterwards and nothing to be worried about.

    Hello Jan,
I had conscious sedation prior to wisdom tooth extraction. The reason they advise fasting, is because if you have eaten, the medication will make you want to vomit post surgery.Vomiting after eye surgery is not recommended.Just think, afterwards your eyesight will be crystal clear again.

He just did the ancestry test.I thought about getting him the combined health one, but thought that could reveal something we’d rather not know ! The prices are coming down for these tests, as more people do them. Once you get the results you can upload the raw DNA onto a worldwide data base, Gedcom, which links you up to other people /relatives who’ve used different companies.
I’ve ordered a kit for myself, which should arrive within a few days. My father has no interest in finding his biological family and refuses to take a test, but doesn’t object to me trying to find them. I may have to ply him with alcohol, get him in a headlock and swab him when he’s not looking.
I was surprised how much information we’ve learnt already about ourselves, but be warned, you get get hooked. I’ve spent hours trawling through names and historical records, and we only got the results back a few days ago.

I experienced shortness of breath when I was first diagnosed. It was because I was severely anemic at the time.

    Hello Lynnie.
I don’t suffer any pain, just swollen fingers on the occasion. The tests are just so expensive, and as I am needle phobic, any mention or suggestion of blood tests, I’m heading for the door quicker than a greased weasel.

    Hello Richie,
I love Chinese food, but sadly, it hates me. Whenever I eat it, my fingers swell and puff up. This happened way before the RA diagnosis.Maybe it’s the soy sauce I always drown it in ?
Kind of agree with you about the vitamin supplements, however I have whittled them down to just a few now, at one point I was taking about twenty! The rosemary supps are just home made, I buy empty capsules and make them myself, for pennies rather than pounds.
When you do make these supplements yourself, you realise what a rip off they are, compared to when buying them from health food shops etc. I did have a go at making several jars of fermented vegetables recently, purely because of the pro-biotic benefits. I won’t be doing that again, it was absolutely disgusting !!!

    Hello Karen,
When I was taking Minocycline, I took huge amounts of oral Vic C, still do. I buy the natural orange flavoured ones and eat them like sweets. You can’t really overdose on Vit C, as the body doesn’t store it. I think there is a small risk of kidney stones though, but I swear by it and I think it has helped. I’ve recently added rosemary supplements to my list. There have been some interesting studies on that herb recently.

He was diagnosed with reactive arthritis and diabetes. I think all these diagnostic labels suck. What was the reactive component in the arthritis? No further tests, the NHS can’t afford to provide 1st class treatment anymore.Sad times.

    Hello Maz,
    How are you ?
I have read that study, but it’s so good when the media start to pick up on what we already know.

In the UK, you would be described as a sad and lonely person.

    Hello Kelly,
Thanks for replying. I read the link and it does work. I’m now going to make an appointment at a clinic that specializes in natural hormone treatment, I can’t be dealing with this any longer.I took the dog out over the fields this morning. I wore a T shirt, and would’ve happily worn shorts if my legs weren’t ghost white. I wish I was a man, all they have to deal with is baldness !
    Hope you are well.
