Inflammation and Disease

A couple of years ago, we listed some of the diseases recently suspected or proven to be associated with infection, including such previously unlikely subjects as coronary artery disease and kidney stones. More recently, doctors have found inflammation, which is a common response adjunct to infection, plays a critical role in a lengthy catalogue of illnesses. Blood indicators of inflammation are now known to be reliable predictors of heart attack. Chronic inflammation is also implicated in Alzheimers, congestive heart failure, stroke, aortic valve stenosis, kidney failure, asthma, psoriasis, pancreatitis, allergy, fibrosis in various tissues (including lung and liver), anemia, certain types of cancer, and complications of surgery. And as you already know, inflammation is a major factor in RA, lupus, fibromyalgia and numerous other diseases of the connective tissues.
