Although other relevant educative info is scant in this article, the fact that those who have been bitten by ticks in the Montreal region can go to a pharmacist, by-passing doctors, to obtain prophylactic antibiotic therapy for possible infection is unprecedented! There is an absence of other pertinent info in the article (e.g., not everyone gets or sees a rash and numerous other tickborne infections may not need 24hr tick attachment to pass infections), but it’good news that tickborne infections are being recognized for the scourge they are, enabling people to get immeciate care.

South Shore pharmacists can administer antibiotic for Lyme disease

Lyme disease was first identified in the 1970s in Lyme, Connecticut, where an inordinately large cluster of children were exhibiting signs/symptoms of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and was later found to be caused by Lyme disease, which is passed by the bite of ticks. Prompt treatment of tickbites can in most cases prevent a lifetime of chronic illness.
