SD and Prostatitis?

According to some research out there, there may well be overlapping autoimmune diseases that include rheumatic diseases and prostatitis in men. Question is….are they separate diseases or related to the same disease process? SD attacks the body’s organs, which could also include the prostate. If the prostate becomes a target of organ hardening, then it’s also possible that this organ could be more susceptible to back-up and chronic infection, just by nature of its function as an organ. It’s also possible, on the flip-side, that a precipitating infection causing a UTI and reactive arthritis could have been the trigger for the SD.

Chris, are you doing anything to boost glutathione in your body? There’s quite a bit out there to suggest that glutathione not only helps the body release its toxic burden because of its antioxidative effects, but also boosts immune function to help clear infections….and can help to lower a man’s PSA level. It’s one of those things in the body that can also be so helpful for folks with SD, especially if there is lung, liver or other organ involvement.

Anything is possible…we’re complex beings and nothing is textbook with this stuff (except for the “idiopathic” classification that is usually given to all autoimmune diseases).

Hi Chris,

I believe it’s possible that there could be a connection since it is not uncommon for a person to have symptoms of more than one rheumatic disease. And there is at least one rheumatic disease that’s known to be associated with prostatitis, which is called Reiter’s Syndrome.
