Thanks for your input. It’s very frustrating for me because my previous Rhuemy wouldn’t dx with RA. Dx. Inflammatory polyarthritis. I think that was it any way.. I’m frustrated as I know we all are here. I’m going to give it a shot. My next question is how do you work on healing your gut while on abx? Do you take probiotics in the days you take the abx? Thanks

Yes, probiotic capsules 3 hours away from the antibiotics. Eating fermented foods is helpful.
I’m on bovine colostrum, NAC and I also take digestive enzymes with my meals. With each of those things I added, I noticed reduction of food-induced symptom flares, to the point that now I can almost eat anything without noticing increased inflammation. There are still a few things I avoid – white flours and refined starches are absolutely the devil for me.

Try typing in ‘leaky gut’ in the search bar above the forum on this page https://www.roadback.org/forums/ and you will find a lot of discussion on the topic. Then i’d go back and type in ‘probiotic’ and run that search. Then any search term on a topic you have questions for! It’s an invaluable resource.

Hi SS – I would start with MWF 100 mg and titrate up over several weeks to 2xMWF. You’ll get worse before you get better and sometimes much worse. Believe in it. It does work. You just have to stay the course. It took six months before I began to see a reduction in symptoms of my RA. If you have scleroderma you may not go through any Herx but if it’s RA or mixed connective tissue then the Herx can be daunting. Despite that when the symptoms begin to abate it’s quite remarkable. Some of us here have had trouble with different generic minocycline. So that could factor in. Torrent generic works for me and Richie but Teva works for others and Watson for others still. Which generic do you have?

Hi. I will have to check on the manufacturer. I appreciate your input. I have been sitting on the fence for so long about whether to start the protocol. I’m not sure why I am afraid, maybe because I have such a defective gut! I am the leaky gut poster child! How do you keep from worsening your poor digestion when you are on abx?

    Shannan,
    Are you on a diet?

RA tried everything: Methotraxate, Arava, Humira. Pneumonia three times. Anemia. Very low iron. Hypothyroidism
AP from April 2014 till August 2015. No luck.
Current medications: Natural thyroid, Mobic, supplements,
    vitamins and minerals.

I have been on heavy doses of multiple abx at the same time – azithromycin, minocycline, oil of oregano, and clindomycin. And still during their use, I was healing my gut.
Diet is biggest factor. Then probiotics. Then supplements.

I understand the hesitation, but the abx get to the root of the problem of why your gut is leaky. I just know that combining them diet, probiotics and supplements is getting me well, but if I hadn’t done abx I suspect the other measures I took wouldn’t be doing nearly as much good (plus I would be back to suffering pain and fatigue every day).

Good morning. You know I visit and revisit this forum every few months. I’ve been thinking so much about the “possibility” that I have RA and then I try to tell myself that it’s not really RA it’s just another manifestation of the Lyme Disease or its because of the mycoplasma infection I had, but it’s not really RA. This particular label scares the crap out of me. I’m not sure why, the literature is equally scary for Lyme and Myco but this is truly scary for me. Maz gave some good advice last night and I think it’s time to go see someone who we know specializes in the AP. I’m in Texas and that means traveling about 5 hours. I can do that. This is the jumping off point I guess. Thanks

    Hi.
Gluten and dairy free. Sugar 95% free. Caffeine is still on board. I’m on high dose fish oil and vitamin C and magnesium. Also turmeric and b-complex. I had severely abscesses tooth worked on two months ago and BOOM joint pain is back. No swelling just pain. Root canal is still not finished as infection took two courses of abx and I feel like total crap!

    Hi
Gut healing is important always and more so with antibiotics. Take 50-100 billion quality probiotics daily, away from antibiotics. Do lots of detox. Binders can help to escort dead cells out of the colon quickly but again take apart from everything else. Do lots of detox, keep up fibre and water to keep bowel function good. Far infrared sauna is great. Diet is critical. Try to stay on an anti inflammatory diet without wheat (all grain if you can), sugar, dairy, night shades if you react to them. There are lots of products that can support gut healing. Your doctor can advise you but I hope this gives you some leads to research. Kate
