This link just came in from the CTLyme yahoogroup and is also very worth adding here, because as chronic patients we often wonder what direction to take in our own healthcare and feel lost and confused. This man, Hamilton Jordan, offers very sage, self-empowering advice about being one's own health advocate. The paradigm with which many of us are familiar has always been that “Doctor knows best,” and “Be sure to follow doctor's orders,” but this fellow discovered that in order to get well, he had to become his own health advocate, do the research, get second opinions and make the challenging treatment decisions for himself, armed with all the knowledge he'd gathered.

“One Man's Advice From Four Cancer Battles,” by Tara Parker-Pope

“Hamilton Jordan, the former White House chief of staff for President
Jimmy Carter, was a well-known force in the health community. During
the past 24 years he battled four different forms of cancer and urged
cancer patients to empower themselves with information.”
