Hi, All
Has anyone experienced hives or itching while taking minocycline? I take it twice a day 100 mg.
I started taking minocycline January 19th, 2008 and it has done wonders for me! I am a believer in AP, though my rheumatologist was very reluctant to try it.
Is there any disadvantage or side effects to taking AP long term? Can I take AP indefinitely without any worries?
Thanks and have a great day!

Welcome to the AP club. Wonderful to hear you have had success on AP already.
I believe there is a relationship between hives and AP as I am also suffering with them big time. I got my first outbreak 12 months into AP – and thought I was dying of the flesh eating disease as I had never seen hives before! I now have them again for a second time – they came back on January 2 and haven't disappeared since. I figure that my immune system is destroying the bugs at a rate faster than my body is able to eliminate them, thus the hive outbreak. In the seven weeks I have had this outbreak I have tried the lemon/olive oil drink and have been eating healthier to try to get rid of them, alas, to no avail. Unfortunately my strategies haven't worked and I don't have any other suggestions for you. Perhaps someone else will chime in with something helpful for us to try.
As far as taking mino long term there are many here who are doing just that and are doing well. Have you read the Roadback book? It's an invaluable read and answers all sorts of questions that you didn't even know you had!
All the best
Lizzy
Hive story to share – I take a medication to control the itching but of course still look like the monster from the blue lagoon. I was trying on bras the other week when the saleswoman entered the cubicle to fit me – she nearly fell back out the door when she saw the huge red blisters and welts on my torso! I reassured her that it was nothing contagious but I noticed that she took care not to touch me, or my credit card when I paid for them. Tee hee – looking forward to freaking a few doctors out with them soon!

I have been on Minocin 100 mg 2 x per day since October 2005 and basically no problems. For the itching I took antihistamines plus had a prscription cortisone cream which I applied to certain area which itched the most.
