Hi,

I have been having cough problems. It gets so bad these days, I cough every two minutes with a lot of phlegm.... I finally figured out it is post nasal drip. It affects my lungs.

Is this part of Lyme problem? I understand it could be anything, such as sinus yeast infection, allergy, or anything..... does any one find relief after Lyme treatment?

I also found I did not cough much when I went to the places near the ocean, like Long Island, NJ shore and Sydney, Australia. Having this clue, I got myself a "Negative Ion Air Purifier" machine which produces some negative ion mimics ocean air.

This is second day I am using it. My cough has been significantly reduced.

I still do not understand why negative ion could reduce my frequency of cough but I am elated. I hope my post nasal drip is just another co-infection of LD.

By the way, I talked to Dr. S, he suspected it could be sinus infection, and he said the zithromax would work. Actually it made me more miserable after 5 days of zith. Perhaps I did not have sinus infection. I also had CT scan of my sinus, every thing came back normal. I tried to take a week of Diflucan, it did not improve anything.

I tried neti pot, acid reflux control, anything you name it.... nothing worked.

I have not tried Oregano oil yet, some one recommended it.

Let's hope this N-Ion will last.

Judy,

I got it from online called Surround Air. Here is the literature about Negative Ion from this company
http://www.surroundair.com/negative-ions.htm  just like that picture. I don't see they have it now.

But when I saw this link
http://www.heavenfresh.com/ionic-air-purifiers-air-ionizers?gclid=CK_Hs7OmiZ8CFRQeDQodWF0vBg  it is only $35.

Amazon sold almost the same product for $59.

[color=green]Not sure if they are the same size.

I sure hope this will last for me. My cough gets worse during the winter time as well as whenever the AC is on.

Update

Today I went to see my pulmonary specialist. He checked my X-ray. He said there was an inflammation at the bottom of my lungs, perhaps due to post nasal drip. He said I needed to practice more deep breathing.

I asked him if my overall lungs have progressed (to worst), he said no. He said there was no sign of progression except that inflammation. He wasn't sure if those inflammation will scar my bottom lungs further. He hopes it will absorb by itself.

I did not do PFT, rather I asked to test my blood oxygen level which measures more accurately than PFT. I have 97.5% blood oxygen (100% is normal). So I am really happy about it.

The doctor told me I really need to take care of this post nasal drip. :dude:

So, I am pretty happy about the results.

JB - you must be very happy with those results! As for your post-nasal drip, from your past posts, I would be suspecting something in your home environment as a cause. One of the reasons you may be deriving benefit from oil of oregano is that it is an anti-fungal. It may be time to pursue the allergy question with an allergist or perhaps a NAET practitioner. Lynnie

Lynnie,

You are right. Something bothers me in this new house. I will have an inspector over to check our heating and cooling system. It seems I cough more when the furnace is on.

Also whenever I try to get back on Minocyclin, I cannot control my cough (when I am not inside the house). I either have developed allergic reaction to minocyclin or it could be yeast over growth....

As the article you posted for another patient who also coughes a lot..... it is said there is a bacteria in the sinus... perhaps I will get that checked out.

Thank you,

JB

Hi JB,

I wish I had seen this sooner. It's obvious to me that your cough is almost certainly allergy-related. The reason why the negative ion generator helps is because it is purifying the air. The negative ions cause suspended particles to drop out of the air.

What is the climate like where you live? And do your symptoms vary depending on what season it is?

JB - mucous is one way that the body de-toxes, so something is certainly irritating you. I would seriously be investigating your home environment. Are you on any anti-inflammatories? Apparently some anti-inflammatory meds can cause post nasal drip also. This must all be very frustrating for you, but at least you know your lungs are doing okay, which must be a relief. Time for some more detective work. If it were me, I wouldnt just lump it all in the co-infection basket, though I would be running it past the LLMD when you see him. Lynnie

Lynnie, Phil and Davit,

Thank you guys very much for helping me to figure out things. I really believe I am allergic to something. Like Phil said the negative Ion machine gave me a huge clue. I will go from there.

I have to cancel many social events because these days, H1N1 Flu scares, no one wanted to hear me coughing at the parties. I also cannot talk much without heavy cough. So I don't call my friends any more.

Lynnie, I have not taken any anti-inflammatory med. That's very good to know. Acid reflux also makes me cough.

I will have an inspector to check our AC/Furnace this week or next. I hope I can get some results from him soon.

What scares me is that the Pulmonary doctor said the area has inflammation may scar my lung more if it cannot absorb well.....  don't need any more scars.

I will keep you posted!

Thanks again

JB
